Chapter One :Chapter 1

Who's tickling her?

Liu Qiaoqiao was puzzled. How could she still feel ticklish even after death? Then she heard a soft loli voice beside her ear.

"It seems she's not dead."

A soft little hand gently rubbed her nose.

"She's still breathing." Came another soft voice, but with a much more mature tone.

Slowly, Liu Qiaoqiao opened her eyes. What met her gaze were two very similar faces, a large one and a small one.

The little boy frowned slightly, conveying a maturity that didn't match his age. Despite his young age, his straight nose, thick eyebrows, and big eyes hinted that he would grow up into a handsome man.

Comparatively, the little girl seemed weaker, but her large, clear eyes that were black and white in striking contrast, combined with her long eyelashes, made her look like a fallen angel, if not for her slightly pale baby-face.

The older boy seemed to have heaved a sigh of relief, but his large eyes were full of fear when he looked at Liu Qiaoqiao.

The little girl was also hiding behind the boy, holding on to her brother's shirt tightly with red, swollen, and cracked hands, her eyes filled with terror.

Seeing this, Liu Qiaoqiao was puzzled. Although she had a fierce temperament and lived by an eye for an eye, she still seemed harmless to others. Why were these two children looking at her as if she were a hungry wolf?

When Liu Qiaoqiao looked around, she was shocked. The smoke-stained walls were torn and damaged, and besides the old cotton quilt on her body and the old desks and stools, there was almost nothing of value in the room.

Where was this?

Before Liu Qiaoqiao could think more about it, a severe pain came from her head, and a large number of fragmented memories flooded into her mind. These memories all belonged to her original body...

The boy in front of her was named Rui Rui, the girl was called Meng Meng, and the owner of this body, just like her, was also named Liu Qiaoqiao, who was the mother of these two children and also a daughter-in-law of the Xu family in Wangjia Village. Her husband, Xu Huaijing, had been serving in the army for over a year and was about to return.

The emotionally conflicted Liu Qiaoqiao took a good look at her robust waistline and came to terms with a reality—she had traversed time and space!

Who would have thought that she, an elite woman of the 21st century, would end up in a remote, impoverished village having experienced a car accident?

While others become princesses, queens, or rich young ladies upon time-travelling, how did she end up so unlucky as to become a village woman with two children?

Such a dramatic life!

Before Liu Qiaoqiao could adjust to her new reality, rumbling sounds of two hungry stomachs reached her ears.

"Are you hungry?" asked Liu Qiaoqiao, rubbing her throbbing temples.

"I... we're not hungry. I'll take my sister to work in the field right now. Please don't hit us!" The boy drew a deep breath, courageously shielding his sister, as if prepared to meet his death.

The girl behind him shrank her head back, not daring to even look at her.

What was happening?

Startled, Liu Qiaoqiao realized that her predecessor was a cruel mother. Always berating or beating these two children. They grew up malnourished, poorly clothed, and were even expected to do fieldwork for her.

Such a wicked woman! In the 21st century, this would be considered child abuse and would result in jail time.

How did Liu Qiaoqiao, sharp and astute all her life, end up in this evil woman's body?

She had a splitting headache.

Taking a deep breath, Liu Qiaoqiao mustered a motherly smile: "Don't be afraid. After all, I'm your real mother, and I will treat you kindly from now on.

I’ll prepare a meal for you now, hold on.”

After speaking, Liu Qiaoqiao stood up and left the room, heading over to the stove to look around. The original owner of this body was a person who would rather starve her children, but horded food for herself.

Rui Rui and Meng Meng exchanged glances, the two little ones were a little dumbfounded.

This was the first time their mother had ever smiled at them since they could remember.

Their mother rarely didn't curse at them when they asked for food, this was indeed unusual.

Today, their mother had already called them by their full names several times, rather not the usual derogatory terms such as “waste of space”, “blood sucker”, “born to be drowned at birth"...

However, would their mother really start treating them kindly?

The two children were obviously a little skeptical.

Liu Qiaoqiao took a ladle to fetch water from the jar, but froze in place. She was stunned by the reflection in the water.

The appearance of the original body was really somewhat shocking!

Ignoring the face for a moment, the reflection in the water showed a fat woman with a broad and plump face. Despite her chubbiness, one could barely make out her exquisite features when she was lean. Liu Qiaoqiao pinched her waist, which was ringed with fat. It seems the reason for the children's slimness was because all the fat was on her.

Her appearance and behavior truly reflected the saying "ugly people often behave abnormally".

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Liu Qiaoqiao closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

She chose to accept reality! From her memories, the original body was a beauty in the village from a young age. However, she fell ill when she was 18 years old and began to put on weight day by day, until she became as fat as she is now.

As long as she seriously commits to losing weight, she should be able to restore her previous beautiful appearance!

Half an hour later, Liu Qiaoqiao used the small bag of white flour and fine salt she found hidden away, and made a small pot of dumplings.

"Rui Rui, Meng Meng, it's time to eat."

In three chipped porcelain bowls, hot noodle soup bubbles, and quickly, the aroma of food fills the dilapidated little house.

The two kids are still standing in the same spot, visibly panting at the sight of the soup dumplings on the table, saliva flowing, their round eyes staring, and neither dare to approach the table.

Liu Qiao Qiao lets out a sigh, wondering what on earth the original body was thinking, to scare these two kids to such a state!

It seems changing the kids' perception of her isn't a matter of a day or two.

"Don't be afraid," she says. "I know I haven't treated you well in the past, but after going through this disaster, I now understand that you are my children, my treasures. From now on, I will take good care of you." Liu Qiao Qiao's face bears a gentle smile as she walks towards the children.

The two little ones exchange a glance, their small faces tense and standing in a state of confusion, as if unsure whether to trust her.

Stretching out her arms, Liu Qiao Qiao pulls the two little ones into her embrace, then lifts them up.

In that moment, their bodies stiffen with surprise.

Their mother is actually hugging them!

Are they sure she's not about to throw them to their deaths?

The male child tightens his small face, struggling: "Don't throw us to our death, we will work hard."

While the female child simply deflates her little mouth, large watery eyes filled with tears, and bursts into tears with a loud cry.

At this, Liu Qiao Qiao is dumbfounded. She quickly tries to soothe them with all her skills: "You are my heart, my liver, my sweet preserves. How could I bear to harm you? Don't cry, Meng Meng," she gently wipes the tears from the little girl's face with soft words: "Mama just wants to hold you while eating."

As she speaks, she already places the two little radishes on stools, placing chopsticks in their hands, "Eat up, wherever Mama has a mouthful, you will never be left out."

The tension on the boy's face faded away, leaving confusion.

The little girl also had tear droplets in her eyes. Her sobbing ceased, entirely captivated by the enticing bowl of noodles.

Her gaze met Liu Qiaoqiao's sincere and eager eyes, coupled with the aromatic noodles, two hungry children glanced at each other in doubt, eventually hesitantly began to eat.

Seeing that Liu Qiaoqiao didn't curse or hit them while they were eating, they didn't understand why their mother's attitude had changed so dramatically, but they were relieved and began to eat freely.

In no time, they finished all the noodle soup, leaving not even a drop.

Liu Qiaoqiao was preoccupied with watching these two adorable, wide-eyed children. The bowl of noodles which she had only taken a few bites of, was snatched away by a pair of wrinkly old hands.

"Yo, I eat cornmeal and vegetables at home, while you're enjoying wheat flour noodles." The original body's mother-in-law, Mrs. Liu, tutted and stood in front of Liu Qiaoqiao holding a vegetable basket.

After examining the half-eaten bowl of noodles, she cleared the food in just a few bites.

Upon seeing that, Liu Qiaoqiao was stunned, thinking to herself, "Who would snatch food this way?"

"I say my third daughter-in-law, you have money to buy wheat flour, yet you have no money to honor your mother-in-law." Mrs. Liu bellowed in a squeaky voice.

Having said that, Mrs. Liu seemed to think that she was completely justified. She turned around and walked into the kitchen. As she saw a sack on the cookstove, her eyes lit up.

Seeing Mrs. Liu act this way, Liu Qiaoqiao sneered inwardly, thinking that anyone can snatch things and make a fuss.
